International Projects Committee members Paul Grey and Dominique Zervas, provided the update to their latest trip. In addition to Mark Knittel's work, the other focus has been on water. Several consortiums of Rotary groups have worked hard on this project in Uganda, leveraging $10,000 into $30,000. Of note, 1 of every 142 Rotary clubs attain GOLD status, and we’re one of them. Our second water project serves over 10,000 villagers. As part of this project, 27 Kilometers of trench’s were dug for the pipes…a BIG effort. While there, our Rotary members checked on the previous water project. All are working great. This year many local officials, and even a newscaster attended the ribbon cutting. The news was broadcast nationwide, great exposure of Rotary’s efforts. Much celebration including dancing, eating, singing ensued. Special recognition given to Dominque for her efforts at grant writing among other contributions.
Lisa Sarr’s project “Rise against Hunger” fed over 57,000 people at .29 cents each. In the coming years, this could be a great “hands-on”
activity for the club. Lisa recruited more than 200 volunteers among several Rotary clubs. Plans are underway for next years effort, beginning in November.
