The society was established in 2013 with a goal to keep chamber music alive in Bellingham. BCMS was founded by Leslie Johnson(violinist) and Pat Nelson(bassoonist). When asked why they launched a chamber music group Bellingham, they replied, “So much art, culture and love here. So many artistic people in Bellingham and Whatcom County.” The BCMS has been granted 501c(3) status effective November 30, 2013. Contributions made to the society are tax deductible as allowed by law.
