We met for an evening outdoor picnic at the home of Aaron & Kelly Booker. Aaron did a fine job preparing chicken and pork. There was a fine selection of foods contributed by various guests.
President John called the meeting to order at 6:40 PM. Catherine Riordan offered the invocation with the theme of bridging the political divides in our country.
President John thanked our hosts, AaronBooker & Kelly and also Scott Herman and Jen who helped set up the picnic. John welcomed guests Ted & Mary Lee Shelton, and their son Spencer Rotarians visiting from Las Cruces, NM. Mary Lee is a member of an all-women Rotary club. Numerous spouses were introduced as were various family members along with a number of Rotaract members from
WWU and Interact members from the high school.
Due to the Labor Day holiday, our next regular meeting will be on Sept 8 at 12:30 on the WCC campus.
President John is looking for someone to cook the salmon at the Sept 16th President's picnic at the Farris's home. Doug Cole will train.
President John provided the final chapter in the Paul Harris biography, which describes Rotary’s origins in Chicago with the formation of the first Rotary club in 1905. Initially, the goals were to advance the growth of the first club, to extend the Rotary movement, and then to intensify community service. The second Rotary club was formed in San Francisco, followed by the third club in Seattle.
“Rotary is better described by what it does rather than what it is.”
The official meeting closed at 6:50 PM, but the socializing continued.
