March 20, 2017

Opening:
President Del reminded everyone that April 10th is a different meeting.  The Club is invited to visit Bellingham Technical College and have lunch at their Culinary School which is acclaimed for its delicious food. Guests are invited. But there must be an accurate head count, so get your name (and guest) on the list.

Announcements:

An announcement regarding RYLA was made by President Del.  RYLA is a Rotary leadership program for youth ages 18 – 30, and this year’s RYLA will be held May 25 -28 in British Columbia.   The club is looking for youth to sponsor for this leadership conference.  There is online registration available – contact Mauri Ingram or Kathryn Deets for more information.
President Del also announced that he had a better place to go so would not be able to close the meeting. Teri Treat is enlisted to perform that task.

Program:
The program for this meeting was our Club Assembly.  There were two aspects of membership that Members were asked to focus discussions on: retention of current members and recruitment of new members.  Members were asked to answer the following questions among their tables:

Retention:
  1. Do you agree that involved members tend to remain as members of our club?  If yes, how can we better engage members on a regular basis?
  2. What would you say is the main reason members leave the club?
  3. Do you have any suggestions on what we can do to address this reason?
Recruitment:
  1. Do you agree that our best recruitment efforts involve current members?
  2. Have you asked someone to be a guest or a member in our club in the last 2 years?  If the answer is no, please share why not. If the answer is yes, what was the response?
  3. Rotary International in general and our Club in particular have a great story to tell and have a lot to offer new members.  How would you describe this to Non-Members?  Do you have an “Elevator Speech?” If you do, please share it.
There seemed to be spirited discussion at a few tables at least - judging from the guffaws heard in the room. At the editor's table there were several thoughtful opinions voiced.
All answers were handed in and the results will be reported to the Membership after the Board has a chance to review the answers. And we hope that some definitive action(s) will come out of this.
