Program: Bob Trunek, Dominique Zervas & Lisa Saar: Report on their Rotary Buffujja Project trip.
Dominique Zervas, Lisa Saar and Bob Trunek reviewed their trip to Buffujja, Uganda in June to visit our club’s International Service Project. Our partner in the project was the Bweogerere-Nambole Rotary Club in Kampala, a large city, where our group stayed and made the 200 km. day trip to Buffujja, a village of 500 people. The major element was piping clean water from a reservoir 20 miles from the village and provide three “water points” to distribute the water. They also installed three compostable toilets and provided some high efficiency stoves to reduce smoke in village kitchens. The project also provided hygiene assistance.
The slide show illustrated the joy and warm welcome our group experienced upon arrival in Buffujja and how well received our assistance was for this isolated poor village.
Our club contributed $11,000 and with contributions from our District 5050 and Rotary International Foundation the total was $36,000. The International Service Committee is reviewing future projects in this area of Africa with big needs.
Final Comments:
Prior to the raffle drawing Del VandeKerk provided additional entertainment when his cell phone rang and he was able to fine himself $20!
